You might be more familiar with chamber music written for strings, but the award-winning Arcadia Quintet is here to breathe new life into it. Formed in 2013 by five energetic young musicians from around Australia—all current or former students of the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM)—the ensemble comprises Kiran Phatak on flute, David Reichelt on oboe, Lloyd van’t Hoff on clarinet, Matthew Kneale on bassoon and Rachel Shaw on horn. Together they create a precise, subtle and tonally varied sound, and they’re working with contemporary composers to create new repertoire. As part of Melbourne Festival, they appear at MPavilion in two intimate concerts that music lovers won’t want to miss.
