If buildings could talk, what would they tell us? This six-part documentary, filmed in 3D and directed by six acclaimed filmmakers in their idiosyncratic styles, ambitiously sets out to discover the cultural significance of six iconic buildings. Wim Wenders enters the Berlin Philharmonie; Michael Glawogger roams the National Library of Russia in St Petersburg; Michael Madsen breaks into Norway’s Halden Prison; and Robert Redford studies the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California. Margreth Olin explores Oslo’s Opera House, while Karim Aïnouz admires the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Cathedrals of Culture premiered at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival, and comes to ACMI for thirteen screenings in association with MPavilion.
ACMI's screenings of Cathedrals of Culture are proudly supported by Haymes Paint.
