Dates for your diary

Tuesday 21 October 2014, 9.08am

Does anyone have a fruitcake recipe? Because there are a lot of dates in this blog post. Not to mention a newly announced baking event at MPavilion, courtesy of local pastry enthusiasts Flour Market. As part of the MMeets program they're inviting you to share your best sweet and savoury baked treats in a combined showcase of home cooks and professional bakers on Sunday 30 November. Register here before the bakefest books out!

This week we're also excited to announce an MPavilion offsite event at RMIT Design Hub. Pamela Golbin—Chief Curator, 20th Century Collections, Fashion and Textile, Les Arts Décoratifs—will be discussing her exhibition Fashion Icons in a free public lecture next Tuesday. Currently on show at Art Gallery of South Australia, the project presents 100 key couture garments that document the history of fashion over the past eight decades—including the work of Balenciaga, Chanel, Comme des Garçons, Dolce & Gabana, Givency, Lagerfeld, McQueen, Mugler, Gaultier and Lacroix.

Meanwhile, there's plenty more Melbourne Festival to enjoy at MPavilion before the 2014 program wraps up on Sunday. Woodwind superstars Arcadia Quintet are joining us for a free lunchtime performance today—and an encore on Sunday—and seats are filling fast for tonight's free MTalks event led by Professor Rob Adams. Tomorrow night, four creative Melburnians discuss the legacy of local design legend John Truscott; on Friday we welcome New York's Trisha Brown Dance Company for a lunchtime performance; and on the weekend we're putting more festival guests on the spot in the final Eavesdropping on Artists discussions, presented by The Wheeler Centre.
